Give Kids A Smile

Columbia Dental proudly announces that it has been selected to participate in the 3rd Annual Give Kids a Smile program, sponsored by the American Dental Association, on Saturday, February 9th, 2019. Columbia Dental will join with dentists across the nation to provide free oral health care services to children up to the age of eighteen. The program, in its fifteenth year, delivered care to 350,000 underserved children on February 5 last year. More than 5.5 million children have been taken cared for by more than half a million volunteers since 2003.

Columbia Dental will pre-qualify patients and schedule appointments for this event. Applications will be available on this website soon. Volunteer opportunities will also be available.

Give Kids a Smile (GKAS) was a grass roots effort that was held by Drs. Jeff Dalin and B. Ray Storm in a dental clinic in St. Louis in 2002. Free dental care was provided to nearly 400 children. The American Dental Association (ADA) recognized this effort and its potential to raise awareness nationally about the importance of oral health to overall health and the need that exists among millions of children who go without care.
In 2003 GKAS with the collaboration of the ADA, dental supplier Henry Schein, Proctor & Gamble, and DEXIS (Digital Radiography for Dental Professionals) went nationwide.

GKAS is a community based movement whose goal is to end the dental health crisis facing America today. The program is designed to address three distinct areas: 1) provide care to people who are suffering from untreated diseases, 2) strengthen and expand the public/private safety net, and 3) bring disease prevention and education into communities.

Columbia Dental is proud to have been chosen to participate in this program by the American Dental Association. Drs. Kate Kincannon and Jared Huvar, with Columbia Dental, are excited and proud to join together with approximately 10,000 dentists and 30,000 dental team members across the nation to provide these free services. Participation will be open to children of West Columbia and surrounding areas up to the age of eighteen who otherwise do not have access to dental care. The Columbia Dental team looks forward to being able to serve those in our community who are in need of proper dental care.
